Since when is being proud of your country and showing your patriotism a bad thing?
I’ve not heard of anyone accused of being a “terrorist” because they didn’t display a flag or ribbon… that’s their choice.
If they felt it necessary solely because of peer pressure then that’s entirely for the wrong reason. Do it because you want to.

Well, it was the 4th of July two days ago. Beyond that I think some of it is blind patriotism. I love the USA, but I’d be the last person putting one of those ribbons on my car.
It seems like these days if you question anything the Administration does, you’re branded a witch, er, traitor.

Be glad when people are proud of the America we know and love. You need to be scared when you see people with a bunch of CONFEDERATE flags pasted up everywhere. Don’t laugh… I just saw a guy tonight with 2 confederate flags on his truck.

Yes, It is a sign that American Flags were On Sale at Wal-Mart this week. LOL!
But seriously, I do see your point.
Most people wouldn’t ever consider joining the military themselves or encourage their kids to join, (their kids can do better than joining the military…the military is just for poor minorities or maladjusted youth) so they think that buying a yellow ribbon ‘support our troops–stop the war’ car magnet for the rear hatch of the SUV is “showing enough support.”
How about putting your money where your mouth is, folks? Step up and serve your country for 3 to 4 years.
Somehow the call for national sacrifice on the part of the ordinary American Citizen is missing. Today the general public is primarily concerned about gas prices, stock market returns, and government handouts. The discourse is all about what government owes them rather than what they can do to help build and support good government and the strength of their nation.
You can see this everywhere in our country, kids being left to fend for themselves in daycare and as latchkey kids while parents pursue the almighty dollar, the dearth of volunteers in local fire departments, the all-volunteer US Military crumbling before our eyes because they lack new recruits, the lack of fiscal restraint in state and federal governments (Treasury debt ceiling was raised to $ 9 billion by Congress earlier this year), etc.
When will it stop? Will we have to self-destruct in order to have it end?
There aren’t enough American Flags in all the Wal-Marts to keep this fantasy alive forever.
