It all depends on which side of the fence you’re on.

Answer by Kevin N

Terrorist use bombs, and are sneaky. Freedom fighters are straight-forward, combatants/

Answer by speakeasy

Freedom fighters fight to free people from tyranny. Islamist terrorists fight to impose tyranny, as we saw in Afghanistan and are seeing in Sudan. The difference is clear.

As another example, at the end of WWII, General Eisenhower marched his troops through a Socialist (NAZI) Death Camp. He said to them, “I can’t tell you what you are fighting for but I can show you what you are fighting against.” Those men were freedom fighters while the local Socialist (NAZI) combatants, ‘defending’ their homeland, were not.

Depends upon the perspective I guess.

Many Conservatives consider Anti-Castro militant (terrorist) Luis Posada Carriles to be a freedom fighter, but his attack on an airplane killed many children. That’s some real ‘freedom fighter’ material right there.

Answer by ph_yo

freedom fighters attack the occupiers. terrorists kill anyone they can.

Answer by Sgt 524

The difference is in the eye of the beholder.

Answer by Sjean

Terrorists kill non-combatants like children and women.

Freedom fighters kill soldiers.

Answer by Good Times, Happy Times…

Well, one important difference is that freedom fighters don’t go around committing suicide & killing innocent civilians.

Answer by smartestmaninthehemsiphere

It all depends on which side you are fighting. It is absolutey a connotative term. The good guys are freedom fighters, and the bad guys terrorists. Altough to me the term freedom fighter is pretty ridiculous. What do freedom fighters fight? Freedom? Oh well, just another stupid label to put on someone who works for the good side but does bad things. And I hope you are not calling all Americans uneducated because that would just not be true. Thanks and have a nice day.

Answer by kathy_is_a_nurse

Americans would indeed fight foreign “occupiers” on our streets…that IS freedom fighting. What we wouldn’t do is PURPOSEFULLY attack innocent civilians and children…that is the very definition of terrorism. Not to mention that many of the “terrorists” in Iraq are not even from Iraq, so just who’s freedom are they fighting for? Certainly, not the Iraqis.

Answer by baywitch

A terrorist is an animal who would blow up children and other innocents along with himself……..and a freedom fighter is what Cindy Sheehan would call them.

Answer by Boilerfan

It is not an issue of education. The reality is that if people pursue violence to promote their cause without sufficient justification, they are terrorist. Yes, I know, who decides what is sufficient justification? Everyone does, that is why there is differences in opinion. However, there is general agreement that certain groups are terrorists because of their own actions.

Answer by joevette

I call people who strap bombs on and target civilians at the local coffee house, library, or school a terrorist. People who fight against military targets in ones own country without hiding behind innocent civilians would be freedom fighters.

Answer by mbush40

Terrorists knowingly kill the innocent. Freedom fighters fight for a cause. Is abortion an act of terrorism?

Answer by g

personally… I think it can often be “which side of the fence you’re on”…

but I think there is a little more to it…

I think of a freedom fighter as someone who doesn’t kill women and children… mainly attacks military targets…

and I also think of a freedom fighter as someone who is fighting a foreign force who has taken over their country…

so basically… Osama probably wouldn’t be a freedom fighter… the way I see it (9-11 was not against the military)… but Iraqi insurgents possibly could be… in their own minds…

Answer by m1a1mikegolf

The way to tell the difference is to look at their tactics and their political goals.

For example the insurgents in Iraq can reasonable be identified as terrorists because they use terrorist tactics and are fighting opposition to the will of the Iraqi people.

How can anybody call people who car-bombed a university last week: “freedom fighters?”

Answer by Humanist

This question can not be answered honestly by the dishonest. Thank you for asking it and I get the irony and it’s importance.

Answer by NEOCON

A terrorist just kills anything that moves including his own people. A freedom fighter spares his people’s blood.

Americans can’t understand the difference dude. They are like a ‘Frog in the Well’ they have not seen rest of the world, they do not have any visonn. They are highly influenced by the politics. M ost worst thing is they are “Self-Centered”. Can’t see the value of life of Non-Americans. Americans should go and ask the relatives of 100000′s innocent dead war victims.

Answer by Mushirah A

It all depends on the eye of the person who is viewing it. One person’s terrorist is another person’s freedom fighter.

If america were attacked by outside forces or even from within. The people who were doing the attacking against us, would be thought of as terrorist, while the ones helping to protect us would be thought of as freedom fighters.

It all in the way the people see it, and how someone decides to spin the scenerio.

Answer by Speedfreak

Terrorists target innocent civilians (among others) to strike terror in the general populace. Freedom fighters fight for just that (for all) and against an aggressor with bad intentions (suppression and control, over innocents, that is).

Answer by Rick N

It all depends on perspective. The IRA were labeled terrorists by the Brit gov’t and (sadly) by their American allies. I consider the Provos to have been nothing short of heroes.

Baywitch, I LOVE YOU!

Answer by boonietech

America IS NOT AN “EVIL OCCUPIER”! Saddam was evil. Ahmaweeniejob is evil. The Korean dog-eater is evil.

My definition of a freedom fighter would be a group of individuals organizing themselves into a military unit, fighting the enemy’s military as an opposing combat force, man to man. They would not target civilian non-combatants, and they would not hide behind women and children.

The islamofascists, because of their sick belief that any islamic civilian who (even without consent) dies because of the actions of the homicide bomber or terrorist guerrilla act, becomes a martyr themselves, feel there is no problem with KILLING their own people, or any other civilian who happens to be in the wrong place. They are terrorists. They should receive no mercy, and as far as I am concerned, are NOT entitled to due process. If it requires REAL torture (not a little water on the head or making them look at breasts) to get them to tell us plans and associates, then I’m fine with that. Or just take NO prisoners. Screw em – two in the chest, one in the head, move on to the next terrorist.

If I’m your definition of an “uneducated American”, I’m proud to wear your silly little label.
