The Bush Administration detained people based on religion, race and the false testimony of questionable individuals.

Guantanamo was the American version of a Nazi Concentration Camp. It was an abomination and a disgrace to American morality and decency.

Obama has corrected that stain on American history. Though the perpetrators need to be brought to justice and punished. Bush and his henchmen violated US law and the Geneva Convention. They committed grave atrocities and crimes against humanity. Guantanamo dishonored the United States of America.

i feel it was the wrong thing to do and history will show the presidents sympathy for the enemy to eventually wind up holding him liable for what will be more murders of american citizens and american soldiers. camp delta is like a holiday inn for them and the treatment they get is a slap on the wrist as compared to what they do to americans when they capture americans they torture americans extremely far worse than what they have gotten and then they kill the american prisoners we have seen it on television.

Lets see…the number one terrorist in the world, Obama, who has infiltrated the U.S. with the single most successful terrorist attack on our nation, becoming president by winning the votes of uneducated morons, is going to close a prison holding all his friends and family. Yeah…makes sense. He needs help to bring down this country.

I mean come people….it’s the FIRST thing he did as prez. Then AFTER he took care of the terrorists, he said he was worried about the economy and the American people. He took care of those who want to kill Americans and rip us down. Obama the Osama lover…..Barack Hussein Obama….there is nothing American about him.

I saw a bumper sticker that said…”1-20-09 End Of An Error”

It should read “1-20-09 Age Of The Anti-Christ”

i think it is a horrible idea, i think those are dangerous men and letting them go is just an invitation to terrorists to do what they want to do, namely, murder and terrorism and so forth. letting them walk out….where is justice.

These animals are some of the worst people to walk the face of the earth. Even if there are prisoners who have not actually done any terrorism; every day that goes by, they are stewing with hatred and planning their revenge. A few of these prisoners have already been set free and joined Al-Qaeda.

Guantanamo Bay is a PANDORA’S BOX that contains much of the concentrated evil in the world and Obama holds the key to open it. If he does, there is a good chance these ex-gitmo prisoners can launch another attack on the united states 5, 10, 15 years from now and Barack Hussain Obama will go down as one of the worst presidents in history. He tricked us into voting for him with his charm and his smooth talking, but we will be WISHING George Bush was still our president.

Now I hope that never happens, but president Barack Hussain Obama really scares me.

“concentration camp” is a really really freaking dumb comparison. They are not torturing people there because they are jewish, nor are they letting them starve to death, or putting them in gas chambers. Anyone who makes that comparison is an absolute ignorant moron, in my oppinion. At Guantanamo the military interrogates suspects to get information on where terrorist groups are and what attacks they are planning. Big difference.

My opinion: Closing this place is a dumb idea. And it scares me that obama is rushing in to doing this so quickly. He’s only been in office a few weeks, why is closing a terrorist-holding prison such a big priority for him?

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand I think the US needs to uphold the Geneva Convention, especially when they promote themselves as a great defender of human rights, and that when people are tortured, they will confess to anything, even if they didn’t do it. That’s the great problem with torture.

On the other hand I would like to know what steps are being taken to ensure security. Terrorists are not one time offenders, like someone who commits murder once. They have a goal and a cause which they would very gladly die for. Being in prison gives them time to think about how to achieve this. The exact figures are disputed, but some who have been released from Guantanamo Bay have been seen in new Al Qaeda videos, and have been promoted to the upper ranks.

As for criminal trials, there are some known terrorists that, due to the circumstances of their capture, are more difficult to prosecute in the ”standard” way.

Also it seems while many in the US want Guantanamo Bay to be shut down, very few states are willing to take the prisoners. As for sending them back to their home country or somewhere else, there is also no telling whether the same torture methods will be used or not– all that we know is that they have been physically removed from Guantanamo.

While in theory we could move them to another country which would have to follow strict guidelines, in reality it must be considered how effective the US can be in monitoring that the ”wrong” people don’t get released in those countries, especially their home countries, and how effective and secure the prisons they would be sent to will be.

So I would like that the US honors its commitment to handling terrorists in a proper and transparent way (as transparent as can be under such circumstances), but at the same time it is imperative that it does not clean up its image and look good by downplaying or undermining national security. I am sorry if this sounds harsh but I have a relative who was nearly killed in a terror attack in Indonesia so terrorism an issue that is sort of close to my heart…
