Hi there.
I am Brazilian and I want to go live in the USA someday. But I’ve heard about discrimination issues. I’ve heard that many people are against immigration. So I’m afraid to be treated as a “terrorist” or something, or to be deported, or to be hated by native people… Would you hate me if I lived in the USA?
Do you think it’s easy for Brazilian people to be able to make a living in the USA? And what do you think about us?

Personally, I believe that so long as you come here legally and be a good person, contributing to society rather than harming it, I’d love to have you in this country. People in all countries will dislike immigrants — you just have to learn to ignore them and move forward, because here you have opportunity so long as you create it for yourself.

depends where u live but you should be ok for teh most part and u look like a WHITE brazilian so u should be ok.
I lived in a neighborhood with many Brazilians, good people, great food, very outgoing, love to party, like my people. but then again I’m Latino and live in NYC.

You mean come as a LEGAL immigrant, don’t you? And not an ILLEGAL ALIEN? Many Brazilians here are here illegally and taking jobs away from Americans. That’s none too popular–and also means the LEGAL immigrants have a harder time finding decent-paying jobs. Of course, right now, unemployment is so high that even LEGAL immigration is a drain on us. We need to create at least 125,000 jobs a month to keep up with the new workers entering the workforce. We get about 100,000 legal immigrants each month, plus we have more than 15 million unemployed workers to put back to work. You do the math and then tell us what YOU have to offer that we don’t already have here.

What you heard is totally wrong.
We are against freeloaders who illegally enter the country, avoid our laws, don’t pay taxes, smuggle humans into the country for profit and transport drugs across the border.. etc. We are a land of immigrants. The people who you heard that from obviously were rejected for one reason or another. They would like to blame race as the reason, but it is likely more complicated. To immigrate, you have to prove you can financially support yourself for a time. You have to have a job waiting for you that is set up before you enter. And they do exist: I saw loads of Brazilians the last time I went skiing at Killington Mountain in Vermont. It was seasonal work, but it gets your foot in the door. For more permanent work, you obviously have to provide a skill or do a job that we can’t sufficiently fill with our current population. For example, we import most of our engineers because our need is much greater than the number of graduates from engineering schools
. To get a visa to visit, you have to prove you have ties to your home country that would compel you to return.
However, if you have a criminal history, no ties to our home country, insufficient funds to start off, no possible job, can’t afford a school etc. you might have trouble.
In closing, we want good, productive immigrants from latin america. Not ones who sneak across our border, have 15 kids, then apply for food stamps and government aid to provide for them because they have more children then they can provide for. That’s a really bad thing and that’s why many people here are angry.

It certainly depends on the individual and also the area of the country which you choose to reside. You cannot lump all of America & Americans into one category or stereotype. It would be like someone basing the whole country of Brazil on the inhabitants of Sao Paulo. The USA is a huge country with a lot of diversity both in its landscape and people.
You are from Brazil, you speak Portuguese. There are many Portuguese speaking people in southern New England, but the majority are from Portugal. Here is a list of large Brazilian communities in the US from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazilian_American
I would say that if you come to the country legally, pay taxes and are a good neighbor you will be treated very well. If you do not and you are a leach on the system, you will be treated poorly. Your experiences in life depend only on you and what you project/contribute to society.
BTW I work with a Brazilian who is the director of the Art Department at my company. She has a fantastic life here and many friends.

Hi,
well i was born in the US and i am mexican & Honduran and i don’t want to sound racist but i do live in a white town im one of the only latino girls im my WHOLE town & yes it is a little uncomfortable to be around one group of the same people and always standing out but if it wasn’t go my parents making that HUGE sacrifice and get papers and making a living in US, i would probably be in mexico or honduras & not being able to be free. I really don’t care what people think of me because im grateful for being in this wonderful country. Also i don’t have a problem with people from any country coming to america to be free but as long as you respect the laws every one is happy.

As a legal immigrant you are all ways welcome even in Arizona. I have lived here all my life and have many friends who became citizens.
The only problem you will have is the wait, Due to all of the millions of illegals all ready here it may take a while.
Hope every thing works out for you. Keep your head up and keep trying.
Once this bill in Arizona takes effect and they start clearing out the rabble it will be easier for people like you to apply and get in the country.
